Emily Linane

 Emily Linane is a Guernsey-born composer, singer, flautist and a lifelong learner of folk instruments. Her creative practice spans contemporary and folk traditions. Her compositions are deeply informed by research into Guernsey’s cultural heritage, material culture, and traditional song, often manipulating, abstracting, and distorting folk elements to develop new musical forms. She loves to write elements of improvisation within her work that allow performers the space to explore.

She holds degrees from the University of York and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and conducts her doctoral research in creative practice and archival heritage materials at Newcastle University. Her multi-faceted work seamlessly combines tradition, contemporary, folk and cultural heritage in her creative work.
