about

Emily Linane   b.1999

she/her

A Guernsey-born composer based in Guernsey/London. Emily has recently graduated from Trinity Laban with distinction. She studied composition under the tuition of Stephen Montague, Paul Newland and Edward Jessen and Matt Roberts at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She was supported by Trinity College London, Havilland Willshire and Gareth Neame Scholarships respectfully and is grateful for their support. In 2021, Emily graduated from The University of York with a first-class degree in Music which was where Stef Conner influenced her works. As a fond improviser herself, Emily likes to feature improvisatory elements within her work that create space for the players to explore. She wishes to continue developing forms in her works by manipulating, abstracting, and distorting folk elements and old musical ideas and structures.

Emily continues to enjoy singing alongside her craft, under the tutelage of Patricia Rosario, and sings with the Improvesarios - an improvised opera group. She currently enjoys playing in Trinity Laban's Saxophone Choir. Equality and accessibility within music education are important to Emily and she is proud to be a Creative Ambassador with The Benedetti Foundation to be able to be a trailblazer in this field.
